GS25 Launches Bulgogi Stew Lunch Box for Chuseok, a Special Menu for 'Honchu-jok'

GS Retail's convenience store chain, GS25, is launching a special Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) easy-to-eat meal, the 'Chuseok Bulgogi Stew Meal,' on the 10th, specifically designed for those spending the holiday alone, also known as 'Honchujok' (solo Chuseok). Priced at 7,300 won, this meal features a menu that perfectly captures the festive atmosphere of the holiday.

The newly introduced 'Chuseok Bulgogi Stew Meal' is designed as a complete set, reflecting traditional Korean holiday dishes. The main dish, Seoul-style Bulgogi Stew, features tender beef along with three types of mushrooms –팽이 (peng-i), 느타리 (neuta-ri), and 백목이 (baekmogi) – and comes with glass noodles. Presented in a small stew pot-shaped container, the meal's highlight is the ability to add the included Bulgogi sauce and enjoy it with a flavorful broth.

In addition to the main dish, the meal includes black rice, along with a variety of side dishes representative of the Chuseok holiday, such as 오미 산적 (omi sanjeok), 동그랑땡 (donggeurangttaeong), 해물 부추전 (haemul buchu jeon), 생취나물 (saengchwi namul), 무나물 (munamul), 명태회 무침 (myeongtaehoe muchim), and 볶음김치 (bokkeum kimchi). This allows customers to enjoy a rich and diverse holiday meal experience at home. Specifically targeting single-person households, the meal offers 16% more food compared to GS25's regular meals. This is part of the company's effort to provide a generous and affordable meal option.

According to GS25's analysis, last year's Chuseok meal instantly became the top-selling meal, significantly outperforming other meal options during the holiday period. Similar results are anticipated for this year as well.

To help stabilize Chuseok prices, GS25 will offer a 30% discount on this meal for customers who pre-order through the 'Our Neighborhood GS' app from September 12th to 16th, a period of 5 days. This discount is limited to 2,000 meals per day, with a total of 10,000 meals available. With the pre-order discount, the regular price of 7,300 won will be reduced to 5,110 won.

In conjunction with the holiday, GS25 is also running a fresh food discount event aimed at customers who purchase holiday supplies at convenience stores, known as 'pyeonjangjok' (convenience store shoppers). From now until September 30th, a variety of fresh products essential for Chuseok preparations, including apples, rice, eggs, dried yellow croaker (gulbi), and frozen cod (dongtae), will be offered at discounts of up to 20%. These products were highly popular during last year's Chuseok holiday and are expected to see strong demand this year as well.

Furthermore, anticipating a surge in demand for over-the-counter medicines and ATM usage during the holiday period, GS25 has ensured sufficient inventory and infrastructure preparedness. During last year's Chuseok holiday, sales of over-the-counter medicines increased by 138.9% compared to the previous week, while ATM usage rose by 108.3%.
